We take a root cause approach to health. We look at what you’re eating, how you’re sleeping. your stress levels. how much time you spend in nature, your movement/exercise routine, and what kind of water you drink. We then run functional labs and correlate those findings to your symptoms and current lifestyle.
This test provides information about immune system function, gut inflammation, pancreatic function, leaky gut, fat digestion, liver detoxification, and presence of pathogens (bacteria, fungi/yeast, viruses, parasites).
This test provides information about hormone imbalances, detoxification, oxidative stress, vitamin deficiencies, gut dysfunction, ovulation, sleep, methylation, and neutrotransmitters.
This test provides information about thyroid function, iron status, immune function, blood sugar regulation, metabolism, and micronutrient levels.
Change the way you navigate your health for the rest of your life.

SOVRN is based on the adjective sovereign. Sovereign means to be free; free from external rule and the right to make all of one’s decisions. Sovereign means to be independent; one does not require or rely on something else. Sovereign means to be autonomous; not subject to the rule or control of another.
I believe everyone has the power to be sovereign over their health. I empower you to put your health in your own hands through simple actionable principles. My goal is for you to leave this program no longer needing it. Further, if you have health complaints in the future you have the tools around you to solve them.
Sovrn Health coaches cannot bill insurance or provide documents to submit to your insurance. There are good reasons why we don’t have contracts with insurance companies, reasons that could dramatically affect your health.
First practitioners who sign insurance company contracts often discover that they can’t deliver optimum care. Instead, care is rationed and dictated by your insurance. Many necessary services aren’t covered, especially in the area of prevention, nutrition, and functional lab testing.
Worse, even insurance companies seem more interested in paper than patients. Huge amounts of paperwork are often required. It’s time consuming, raises costs and takes us away from our primary mission of helping our patients and clients get and stay well. And insurance company contracts also attempt to govern how we run our business.
Your health is your most valuable possession. Please don’t gamble it with a practitioner who may try to serve two masters, or who was merely the lowest bidder.
You will be provided, upon request, with a “superbill” which is a statement of the lab and consulting fee for your records. Some patients have successfully submitted these for reimbursement of out of pocket medical expenses, especially if submitting to a Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). In any case, our office fees and lab fees are usually tax deductible if you itemize health care costs. Speak with your tax preparation person to be certain.
Functional lab testing assesses how well your body is or is not functioning. Conventional lab testing such as routine blood work your doctor runs is useful in diagnosing and monitoring disease. This means conventional testing methods often flag problems after they’ve become a disease. However, many people without a diagnosable disease still don’t feel well. This is where functional lab testing comes in to give us a deeper understanding of the root cause(s) of health complaints and prevent disease in the first place.
Doctors are trained to diagnose and treat specific diseases and conditions. Often these treatments are pharmaceuticals and surgery. As a Sovrn Health coach, I cannot diagnose and treat diseases specifically. My healing strategy is to address every cell, tissue, organ, and system in the body simultaneously and non-specifically. I teach clients general health building principals that address all aspects of the body.
The typical general practitioner probably doesn’t know about functional lab tests or how to interpret them. Doctors are trained to follow certain standards like matching a set of symptoms to particular lab tests and specific pharmaceuticals. Further, if you don’t fit the conventional model of a patient warranting a particular test or set of tests, your doctor may tell you that the tests are not justified.
This conventional medical model is often a cycle of trial and error where treatment modalities are not addressing the underlying cause of the unwanted condition.
The sequence of trial and error looks something like this: a patient comes in with hypothyroidism symptoms (cold, thinning hair, tired, constipated, depresses, muscle achiness) → doctor runs a thyroid lab panel → doctor treats the test results with drugs → hypothyroidism symptoms may or may not resolve for a short period of time or drug dose may continually need adjusted → symptoms that were once treated often come back and new symptoms appear resulting in a new diagnosis or stronger treatment → cycle repeats. You see how the root cause of the hypothyroidism symptoms were never resolved. Additionally this is why I run multiple different tests that give us different information about the body. Because the hypothyroidism symptoms could be due to chronic stress, malnutrition, dysbiosis, leaky gut, etc. There can be multiple causes for your symptoms.
I run three different functional tests for my clients all at once. I carefully selected each of these labs to obtain as much information about your health as possible. These hand selected labs provide information about your immune system, pancreatic function, digestion, detoxification, infections, hormones, methylation issues, HPA dysfunction, oxidative stress, vitamin deficiencies, antioxidant system, neurotransmitter imbalances, sleep issues, gut permeability, GI inflammation, GI mucosal barrier health, thyroid function, general body inflammation, iron status, and blood sugar balance. As you can see the information from these tests is abundant, therefore with this information I am able to get as close to the root cause of your health complaints as possible. I take the results of these three tests and correlate them with your symptoms. I then come up with an individualized protocol for you that addresses, diet, rest, exercise, stress reduction, and supplements.
Symptoms are a great tool, they tell us when something is wrong. However, symptoms are not the end all be all. My goal is to not alleviate your symptoms, but to resolve the underlying cause of your symptoms. This way the symptoms don’t show up ever again.
